Clinton, New Jersey- On Thursday evening June 30, The North Hunterdon County Rotarians, rolled up their sleeves and donned their work clothes for a great cause-giving one of the historic buildings at the Red Mill Museum Village a much needed facelift.  The Museum's thanks goes out to these hard workers, who scraped and painted the old Mulligan Quarry Dynamite Shed, making it look like new.

This project is part of the Red Mill Museum Village's new Adopt-a-Building program.  According to Amy Hollander, the Museum's Executive Director, "Everyone in the area recognizes the Red Mill as an historic landmark, but not everyone realizes that we have a dozen historical buildings on site, most of which are on the National Register of Historic places, and all of which need constant care." In order to ensure that these buildings continue to be open to the public, the Museum has launched this Adopt-a-Building program.  "We welcome all individuals and groups interested in participating," explained the Museum's Board President, Joe Eggert. "there are projects available for volunteers of all different skill levels."

The Museum needs people to haul, lift, scrape and paint, as well as people with carpentry, masonry, and roofing skills.  "The Museum has a "honey-do" list that is miles long," according to Sky Van Ness, the Chair of the Museum's Buildings & Grounds Committee.  "Most of our small one story cedar shake roofed buildings need to be power washed, some need new roofs and almost all of the buildings need painting and repairs of some kind."

You can adopt a Red Mill Museum building for a year or in perpetuity.  If you or your group is interested in lending a hand to preserve a piece of Hunterdon history, please contact the Museum's Executive Director, Amy Hollander at (908) 735-4101 ext. 101 or director@theredmill.org.
